FAMILY’S GRIEF: Friends and family of robbery suspect in Taman Equine yesterday
BAK KUT TEH seller Chan Kok Lung, 33, who was gunned down in a vicious shootout with police in Seri Kembangan two days ago, may have had a premonition that his life was to end soon.
A source close to the suspected robber’s family told Malay Mail that he had hinted to his wife he may not be around for long.

The source said Chan had reminded his wife that if he was “gone”, she should look for his friend who incidentally, was the other suspected robber, Wong Keong Hong, 41, whom police shot dead in Genting Highlands just minutes later in a separate shootout on Monday.

When Malay Mail met Chan’s family at the Serdang Hospital mortuary, they refused to speak to reporters. However, a man believed to be the father, was seen crying uncontrollably and was overheard asking: “How could police be so brutal?”

Sources said a post-mortem on Chan revealed the cause of death to be gunshot wounds. There were several bullet wounds on Cha n’s head, chest and hand.

Thirteen slugs were removed from his body. In a Press conference yesterday, Kuala Lumpur police chief DCP
Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman announced the double shooting.

He said the two suspected robbers, believed to have been involved in at least three armed bank robberies and got away with more than RM1 million during the Ramadan month, had both fired at police first.
“We had tracked both around Taman Putra Permai but they split up and the suspect driving a Toyota Estima eluded us at first.”

However, in Seri Kembangan, near the traffic-light junction at Equine Park Jaya Jusco, Muhammad Sabtu said Bukit Aman police managed to find Chan and surround his black Honda Accord.

He said the suspect fired at police with a black Smith & Wesson .38 revolver before police returned fire and killed him on the spot.

“The other suspect, a money collector from Cheras, had his Estima cornered when he was heading up to Pahang.”

Muhammad Sabtu said police overtook and ordered the car to stop at Jalan Gohtong Jaya but three men exited from it and fired two shots at police.

Return fire from the police killed Wong while his two accomplices fled into the woods. Police also seized batons and fake number plates from the two dead suspects, who had no previous criminal records. Muhammad Sabtu said police have identified the two remaining members and expect to arrest them soon.-malaymail
